The Complete Guide To Springsteen B-Sides, Sampler Tracks & Remixes

Since regular albums are only about half the story when it comes to collecting Bruce Springsteen, this is a general overview of his "non-catalogue" tracks (i. e. recordings/remixes that were exclusively issued on single sides, Various Artists samplers or promotional releases); along with details on where to find them, background information on the material itself, and a couple of purely subjective personal remarks as well. All songs are in alphabetical order; titles marked with an asterisk (*) are cover versions.

4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) (edit)
LP: "Rockwork" Germany-only Various Artists compilation (CBS), 1975
Unique 3:42 edited version.

4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) (live)
CDR: "(Magic) Tour Highlights" Dutch/US promotional EP’s, 2008
Recorded during Danny Federici’s final stage appearance at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana on March 20, 2008.

30 Days Out
12-inch: "Lucky Town" France-only issue, 1992
CD: "Leap Of Faith" First UK/European issues, 1992
Excellent midtempo rocker recorded for the "Human Touch" album.

57 Channels (And Nothin' On) ("Little Steven Mix Version 1")
57 Channels (And Nothin' On)
("Little Steven Mix Version 2")
57 Channels (And Nothin' On)
("There's A Riot Goin' On")
7-inch: "57 Channels" UK/European issues (edit of "LSMV 1" only), 1992
12-inch/CD: "57 Channels" Europe-only issues (all three versions), 1992
"57 Channels: The Remixes" US-only issues (all three versions), 1992

Even worse an idea than releasing the weak album version of "57 Channels" as a single in the first place was allowing Little Steven to make these hysterical remixes of it; resulting in a throwaway tune about cable television suddenly becoming a semi-political statement (which also formed the basis for Bruce's noisy 1992/93 live performances of the song). Downright awful.

A Fine, Fine Boy (live; with Darlene Love)*
CD: "The 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Concerts" US-only 4-CD set (Time Life), 2010
Recorded at Madison Square Garden in New York City on October 29, 2009.

A Night With The Jersey Devil
7-inch: "What Love Can Do" US-only "Record Store Day" release, 2009
Originally available via Springsteen’s official website as a free mp3 download and video stream on Halloween 2008 (with the video clip later also being included on the “Working On A Dream” 2-disc “deluxe” edition’s bonus DVD), the abovementioned 7-inch vinyl single marks the only “physical” release of this track in audio-only form.

Always A Friend (live; with Alejandro Escovedo)*
CDR: "(Magic) Tour Highlights" Dutch/US promotional EP’s, 2008
Recorded at Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on April 14, 2008.

American Beauty
12-inch: "American Beauty" US/European "Record Store Day" EP, 2014
Studio outtake (presumably from the "High Hopes" album sessions) released exclusively on the abovementioned “Record Store Day” vinyl EP in "physical" form.

American Skin (41 Shots) (studio version)
CDR: US-only 1-track promotional single, 2001
5:14 studio recording of the song that was never available commercially. Taped at The Hit Factory in New York City on March 2, 2001, this take is only slightly different to the widespread live version; lacking the "41 shots" intros sung by various band members, and fading out during Clarence's sax solo.

American Skin (41 Shots) (edited live version)
CD:"American Skin" Canadian/US promotional 1-track CDR singles, 2001
"Live In New York City Album Sampler" European promotional 4-track EP, 2001

5:09 radio version omitting more than two-and-a-half minutes from the original “Live In New York City” album version. Edits include a completely removed intro, a shortened guitar solo, and the saxophone solo at the end fading out prematurely.

Badlands (edit)
CD: "Breaking The Price Barrier" Australia-only Various Artists promo compilation (CBS), 1988
Unique 3:12 edited version that fades out prematurely during Bruce's "humming" part.

Balboa Park (live version)
Cassette: "Bruce Springsteen: Columbia Records Radio Hour" US-only promotional tape, 1996
Recorded at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on December 9, 1995; a show from which excerpts were broadcast on NBC's “Columbia Records Radio Hour” programme in the US. Not released commercially.

Be True (live version)
12-inch/CD: "Tougher Than The Rest" UK/European issues, 1988
Recorded at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan on March 28, 1988.

Because The Night (2009 “Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame” live version; with U2, Patti Smith & Roy Bittan)
CD: "The 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Concerts" US-only 4-CD set (Time Life), 2010
Recorded at Madison Square Garden in New York City on October 30, 2009.

The Big Muddy (live version)
12-inch: "Streets Of Philadelphia" UK-only picture disc, 1994
CD: "Streets Of Philadelphia" UK/European issues, 1994
Recorded during the controversial "MTV Plugged" show (Warner Hollywood Studios, Los Angeles, California on September 22, 1992) and included on the 1993 "In Concert" home video, though not on the subsequent album.

Blinded By The Light (single edit)
7-inch: "Blinded By The Light" US-only promotional and commercial issues, both 1973
Unique 3:58 edited version which has the last three lines of the penultimate verse and the complete final verse omitted from the LP track.

Blood Brothers (alternate version)
CD: "Blood Brothers" EP (available with appropriate home video only), 1996
"Secret Garden" UK/European reissue, 1997
Previously unheard "rock" version of the song which features an acapella intro by Bruce and indeed is radically different to the take released on "Greatest Hits", although this uptempo arrangement doesn't really seem to correspond with the intimacy of the lyrics.

Bobby Jean (Seeger Sessions Band live version)
CD: "Bruce Springsteen With The Sessions Band PBS Exclusive" US-only promotional EP, 2007
Recorded at The Point in Dublin, Ireland on November 18, 2006.

Born In The U.S.A. ("The Freedom Mix")
Born In The U.S.A.
("Dub")
Born In The U.S.A.
("Radio")
12-inch: "Born In The U.S.A." Worldwide issues (not released in the UK), 1984
"I'm On Fire" UK issue ("The Freedom Mix" only), 1984

Cassette: "Born In The U.S.A." Australia-only cassette EP (all three versions), 1984
The final installment in an utterly useless (and uncharacteristically commercial) series of remixes of the first three "Born In The U.S.A." singles by "techno wizard" Arthur Baker; featuring stuff like added drums and percussion, chime effects, echo, reverb and additional backing vocal tracks. Whatever was going on in Bruce's head when he decided to have an already misinterpreted song about a desperate Vietnam vet reworked for dance club audiences to shake a leg to is anybody's guess - the result, however, is particularly shoddy and without doubt marks the lowest point in his entire discography.

Born In The U.S.A. (1986 acoustic live version)
CD: "The Bridge School Concerts: 25th Anniversary Edition" 2-CD set (Warner Reprise), 2011
Recorded at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California on October 13, 1986.

CD: "Missing" Europe-only EP, 1996

Born To Run (edit)
LP: "Super Sound" Australia-only Various Artists compilation (K-Tel), 1976
Unique 3:10 edited version.

Born To Run (acoustic live version)
12-inch/CD: "Tougher Than The Rest" UK/European issues, 1988
Recorded at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California on April 27, 1988. This particular version also appears on both "Video Anthology" releases; with a lengthy spoken intro by Bruce that, sadly, is not featured on record.

Born To Run (2002 full-band live version)
CD: "Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band PBS Exclusive" US-only promotional compilation, 2005
Recorded at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain on October 16, 2002. Although the song was also included on the “Live In Barcelona” DVD, this separated audio track is unique to the abovementioned release, which was not sold in stores and exclusively available to donors supporting the “Public Broadcasting Service (PBS)” with a $ 60 “pledge” in late 2005.

Born To Run (2009 “Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame” live version; with Billy Joel)
CD: "The 25th Anniversary Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Concerts" US-only 4-CD set (Time Life), 2010
Recorded at Madison Square Garden in New York City on October 29, 2009.

Chicken Lips And Lizard Hips*
CD: "For Our Children" US-only Various Artists compilation (Disney Records), 1991; reissued on Kid Rhino, 1999
Weird cover version of a children's song (reportedly a favourite of Springsteen's first-born son, Evan James); recorded especially for the abovementioned benefit album.

Chimes Of Freedom (live)*
12-inch: "Spare Parts" First UK/general European issues, 1988
LP: "United Artists For The Poet" Italy-only Various Artists compilation (Sony), 1991
CD: "Chimes Of Freedom" Worldwide EP, 1988 (original issues; partially without spoken intro) and 1999 (reissues; all without spoken intro)
Incredible performance recorded during a concert at the Olympic Stadium in Stockholm, Sweden on July 3, 1988; the first half of which was broadcast live via satellite into 15 different countries. This Bob Dylan tune eventually became the theme song for Amnesty International's six-week, 19-date "Human Rights Now!" tour, headlined by Bruce and the E Street Band in the fall of the same year.

Chimes Of Freedom (live; with Sting, Peter Gabriel, Youssou N’Dour & Tracy Chapman)*

Circus Song (live)
7-inch: "Playback" US-only Various Artists promotional EP, 1973
Recorded at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles, California on May 1, 1973, this is an early version of what would eventually become "Wild Billy's Circus Story", with partially different lyrics. Although video footage of the complete song from this same performance was officially released as part of the "Born To Run" 30th anniversary box set in 2005, the audio track itself has never been available in commercial form.

Cover Me ("Undercover Mix")
Cover Me
("Dub 1")
Cover Me
("Radio")
Cover Me
("Dub 2")
12-inch: "Cover Me" Japanese/US issues (all four versions), 1984
Cassette: "Cover Me" Australia-only cassette EP (all four versions), 1984
Second Arthur Baker remix series. For the "Undercover Mix", Baker even went as far as completely removing Garry Tallent's original bassline from the track, and replacing it with an entirely new one played by a friend of his.

Dancing In The Dark ("Blaster Mix")
Dancing In The Dark
("Dub")
Dancing In The Dark
("Radio")
12-inch: "Dancing In The Dark" Worldwide issues except UK (all three versions), 1984

Devil With The Blue Dress Medley (live)*
12-inch: US-only 2-track promotional issue (Asylum), b/w Jackson Browne's "Before The Deluge", 1979
LP: "No Nukes" Various Artists 3-LP compilation (Asylum), 1979
CD: "No Nukes" US-only issue (Elektra), 1997
Recorded at Madison Square Garden in New York City on September 21, 1979 (the first of two "No Nukes" benefit concerts with Springsteen and the E Street Band headlining). Bruce had already worked up this medley - consisting of "Devil With The Blue Dress", "Good Golly Miss Molly", "C.C. Rider" and "Jenny Take A Ride" - as early as 1975, from where it was successfully used as a standard encore up to the 1988 "Tunnel Of Love Express Tour" in often varied and expanded form. Edited version.

Every Breath You Take (duet with Sting; live)*
CD: "¡Released! – The Human Rights Concerts, 1988: Human Rights Now!" 2-CD set (Eagle Rock Entertainment), 2013
Recorded during the final show of Amnesty International’s six-week "Human Rights Now!" tour at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 15, 1988.

For You (live version)
7-inch/12-inch: "Fire" UK/European issues, 1987
CD: "Live Collection" Japan-only EP, 1987
Very dynamic concert performance of the "Greetings..." classic; recorded at The Roxy in Los Angeles, California on July 7, 1978. Just like "Incident On 57th Street", this seems to have been considered for inclusion on the "Live / 1975-85" box set, but didn't make the final cut.

For You (Seeger Sessions Band live version)
CD: "Bruce Springsteen With The Sessions Band PBS Exclusive" US-only promotional EP, 2007
Recorded at The Point in Dublin, Ireland on November 19, 2006.

Recorded at Madison Square Garden in New York City on October 29, 2009.

Girls In Their Summer Clothes ("Winter Mix")
CDR: "Girls In Their Summer Clothes" European/US promotional singles, 2007
4:25 remix originally issued for radio airplay only, and later made available as an exclusive iTunes download as well.

Give My Love To Rose*
CD: "Kindred Spirits: A Tribute To The Songs Of Johnny Cash" Various Artists compilation (Lucky Dog/Sony Music Nashville), 2002
Beautiful solo acoustic rendition originally performed in front of a video camera at Bruce’s “Thrill Hill East” home studio in Rumson, New Jersey on February 12, 1999; with the resulting footage being shown during a Johnny Cash tribute concert held at Hammersmith Ballroom in New York City two months later, which was also broadcast in the US by the TNT cable network. It is of note that the recording released on “Kindred Spirits”, however, features a different vocal track to the broadcasted version from the first chorus onwards.

Gotta Get That Feeling (live version)
10-inch: "Gotta Get That Feeling” US/European "Record Store Day" release, 2011
Recorded at the Carousel House in Asbury Park, New Jersey on December 7, 2010; a small-scale, invitation-only performance that was professionally filmed for a subsequent webcast called “Songs From The Promise” (and eventually also included as a bonus on the 2011 standalone DVD/BluRay release of Thom Zimny’s "The Promise: The Making Of 'Darkness On The Edge Of Town'" documentary).

Green River (live; with John Fogerty)*
CD:"The Best Of Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame + Museum" US-only 3-CD set (Time Life), 2011

CD: "Streets Of Philadelphia" UK/European issues, 1994
Recorded during the "MTV Plugged" show (Warner Hollywood Studios, Los Angeles, California on 22 September 1992) and included on the 1993 "In Concert" home video, though not on the subsequent album.

Gypsy Woman*
LP/CD: "All Men Are Brothers: A Tribute To Curtis Mayfield" Various Artists compilation (east west), 1994
Mediocre cover version of a mediocre Curtis Mayfield tune; recorded especially for the abovementioned tribute album.

Held Up Without A Gun (studio version)
7-inch: "Hungry Heart" Worldwide issues (except Brazil), 1980
12-inch: "I'm Goin' Down" Holland-only issue, 1985
Bruce's shortest officially released studio track to date, clocking in at a mere 75 seconds. Originally recorded for "The River", it is believed to have been included on early acetates of that album, although such copies have yet to surface.
However, this crude little rocker is the only genuine Springsteen single B-side that so far has not made it onto an official CD release

Hey Blue Eyes
12-inch: "American Beauty" US/European "Record Store Day" EP, 2014
Studio outtake (presumably from the "High Hopes" album sessions) released exclusively on the abovementioned “Record Store Day” vinyl EP in "physical" form.

High Hopes*
CD: "Blood Brothers" EP (available with appropriate home video only), 1996
Cover version of a song written by Tim Scott McConnell (a.k.a. Tim Scott), and originally released on his 1987 Geffen album "The High Lonesome Sound". It is of note that this take is different to the ones partially featured in the "Blood Brothers" video documentary.

Hobo’s Lullaby* (with Pete Seeger)
CD: "Give US Your Poor" US-only Various Artists compilation (Appleseed), 2007
Recorded exclusively for the abovementioned charity album.

Hungry Heart ("Berlin 95" Version)
CD: "Hungry Heart" Worldwide issues, 1995
Strange semi-playback recording as featured in the appropriate video clip (filmed at East Berlin's "Cafe Eckstein" on July 9, 1995), with Bruce's new live vocals simply mixed into the fore of the song's original 1980 instrumental tracks.

Hurry Up Sundown
12-inch: "American Beauty" US/European "Record Store Day" EP, 2014
Studio outtake (presumably from the "High Hopes" album sessions) released exclusively on the abovementioned "Record Store Day" vinyl EP in "physical" form. It is of note that all instruments on this track apart from the drums (electric and acoustic guitars, bass, keyboards, glockenspiel, percussion and piano) were played by Bruce himself.

I Ain't Got No Home*
LP/CD: "Folkways - A Vision Shared: A Tribute To Woody Guthrie & Leadbelly" Various Artists compilation (CBS), 1988
Recorded especially for the abovementioned benefit album. An alternate "live" version of the song (apparently recorded during a "Tunnel Of Love Express Tour" soundcheck at New York's Madison Square Garden in May 1988) was featured on both the official "Folkways" home video and the rare, US-only "Interchords" promotional LP.

Note that the abovementioned CD sampler was exclusively available to donors supporting the station with a $ 150 “pledge” via their official website.

In The Midnight Hour (live; with Wilson Pickett)*
CD: "The Best Of Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame + Museum Live" US-only 3-CD set (Time Life), 2011

Incident On 57th Street (live version)
7-inch: "Fire" North American issues, 1987
12-inch: "War" UK/European issues, 1986
CD: "Live Collection" Japan-only EP, 1987
Last known concert performance of the song for almost 19 years; recorded at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York on December 29, 1980. Rather clumsily reworked ending with a fake applause overdub that doesn't even come from the same show (the original version segued straight into "Rosalita", as on the "E Street Shuffle" LP), but that aside, "Incident..." no doubt stands out as one of Springsteen's finest live tracks ever released.

Jersey Girl (live; with spoken intro)*
7-inch: "Cover Me" Worldwide issues, 1984
12-inch: "Cover Me" UK/European issues, 1984
While "Jersey Girl" itself is not really a non-catalogue track anymore since its inclusion on the 1986 "Live" boxed set, it should be noted that the full version with Bruce's short introduction speech referring to his loyal New Jersey audience (omitted for the album release) is still exclusive to the abovementioned vinyl singles.

Johnny 99 (Seeger Sessions Band live version)

CD: "Leap Of Faith" First UK/European issues, 1992
Recorded at the Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey on August 6, 1992. The same live version was featured in the appropriate, rarely-aired video clip which eventually was included on “The Complete Video Anthology / 1978-2000”.

Linda Paloma (duet with Patti Scialfa)*
CD: “Looking Into You: A Tribute To Jackson Browne” Various Artists 2-CD compilation (Music Road Records), 2014
Cover version of a song from Jackson Browne’s 1976, Jon Landau-produced album “The Pretender”; recorded specifically for the abovementioned tribute CD.

London Calling (live)*
CDR: UK 1-track promotional single, 2010

12-inch: "Secret Garden" Holland-only issue, 1995
CD: "Secret Garden" Second UK/European issues, 1995
A particularly raw and intense performance featuring some great guitar work by Bruce; recorded during the shooting of the appropriate, Jonathan Demme-directed video clip at Tramps Nightclub in New York City on February 21, 1995, which marked Springsteen's first stage appearance with the complete E Street Band (including both Little Steven and Nils Lofgren) after a six-and-a-half year "separation".

Murder Incorporated (second live version)
CD: "Hungry Heart" Worldwide issues (except UK), 1995
Recorded during a specially staged show at Sony Studios in New York City (again with the E Street Band) on April 5, 1995; parts of which were used for several worldwide TV specials. Not released in the UK.

CD: "America: A Tribute To Heroes" Various Artists compilation, 2001
Acoustic rendition performed at Sony Studios in New York City on September 21, 2001 for the worldwide syndicated telethon in support of September 11 US terrorist attack victims. Actually a song about the demise of Asbury Park, Bruce had first introduced "My City Of Ruins" during a pair of Christmas benefit shows there in mid-December 2000. It is of note that the "America: A Tribute To Heroes" CD (as well as its simultaneously released VHS and DVD counterparts) listed the track under the title of "My City Of Ruin".

CD: "We All Love Ennio Morricone" Various Artists compilation (Sony Classical), 2007
Odd "cover version" of the classic Ennio Morricone movie theme (from Sergio Leone’s epic 1968 spaghetti western "C’era Una Volta Il West"), which features Bruce playing electric guitar over a pre-recorded orchestral arrangement.

Plane Wreck At Los Gatos (Deportee) (live)*

The Rising (live version)
CD: "Lonesome Day" Europe-only EP, 2002
Recorded at the Rose Center in New York City, and originally performed to open the 2002 “MTV Video Music Awards” live broadcast on August 29. For an official release, the sound quality of this track is rather dubious.

The River (edited 1985 live version)
LP/CD: "Ao Vivo" Brazil-only sampler, 1986/1991
5:57 edit that has Bruce’s lengthy “draft story” intro omitted.

Recorded during the final show of Amnesty International's six-week "Human Rights Now!" tour at River Plate Stadium in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 15, 1988.

The River (edited 2000 live version)
CD: "The River" Spanish promotional 1-track CD single, 2001
A particularly radical radio edit, trimming down the original, 11+-minute “Live In New York City” album version to a mere 4:44. This version is missing the complete intro and also omits most of the harmonica and saxophone parts.

Rocky Ground (Modern Mix)
CDR: "Rocky Ground" Finnish promotional 1-track single, 2012
A somewhat peculiar remix that was edited down to 3:21 from the original album track’s running time of 4:40, and features a notably different intro adding subtle piano backing to Michelle Moore’s opening vocals and the repeated "I'm A Soldier In The Army Of The Lord” samples. This version had originally been posted as a streaming video on Springsteen’s official website and YouTube VEVO channel in mid-June 2012 (less than a month after the "regular" clip first appeared there).

Secret Garden ("String Version")
12-inch: "Secret Garden" Holland-only issue, 1995
CD: "Secret Garden" Second European issue, 1995
"Secret Garden" UK/European reissue, 1997
Special remix with effective synthesizer string arrangements by David Kahne and extra percussion added to the regular "Greatest Hits" LP version. As evidenced by the "Blood Brothers" video documentary, Bruce originally considered this particular mix for inclusion on the album before it was voted out by most of the band members and studio personnel.

Secret Garden ("Z100 Jerry Maguire Mix")
CD: "The Morning Zoo Bootleg" US-only Various Artists compilation, 1997
Unique remix featuring dialogue excerpts from the 1997 movie "Jerry Maguire" (which included the standard version of "Secret Garden" on its soundtrack) laid over the song's instrumental sections; created and aired by Portland radio station Z100 with full permission from Columbia Records.

Shake, Rattle & Roll (live)*
CD: "The Concert For The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame" US-only Various Artists compilation (Sony), 1996

She’s The One (live version)
CD: "Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band PBS Exclusive" US-only promotional compilation, 2005
Recorded at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain on October 16, 2002. Although the song was also included on the “Live In Barcelona” DVD, this separated audio track is unique to the abovementioned release, which was not sold in stores and exclusively available to donors supporting the “Public Broadcasting Service (PBS)” with a $ 60 “pledge” in late 2005.

Sinaloa Cowboys (live version)

Recorded at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on December 9, 1995.

Spare Parts (full-band live version)
7-inch/12-inch/CD: "Spare Parts" UK/European issues, 1988

Spare Parts (acoustic live version)
CD: "Missing" Europe-only EP, 1996
Recorded at the I.C.C. in Berlin, Germany on April 19, 1996.

Spirit In The Night (solo piano live version)
CD: "Lonesome Day" UK/European issues, 2002
Recorded at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, Spain on October 16, 2002. Despite Bruce forgetting the lyrics towards the end of the song, this recording - amazingly enough - has been left untempered.

Stand On It (original short version)
7-inch: "Glory Days" Worldwide issues, 1985
12-inch: "Glory Days" UK/European issues, 1985
LP/CD: "Ruthless People" Original soundtrack album (Epic), 1986
CD: "57 Channels (And Nothin' On)" UK-only EP (picture disc in digipak), 1992

LP: "No Nukes" Various Artists 3-LP compilation (Asylum), 1979
CD: "No Nukes" US-only issue (Elektra), 1997
Recorded at Madison Square Garden in New York City on September 22, 1979 (the second of two "No Nukes" benefit concerts with Springsteen and the E Street Band headlining). Most of the lead vocals here were actually done by Browne and Butler.

Straight Time (live version)
7-inch: "The Ghost Of Tom Joad" UK-only picture disc, 1996
CD: "The Ghost Of Tom Joad" Europe-only EP, 1996
Recorded at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on December 9, 1995.

Streets Of Philadelphia (full-length version)
LP/CD: "Philadelphia" Various Artists soundtrack album (Epic), 1993

Unique 4:13 edited version.

Vigilante Man*
LP/CD: "Folkways - A Vision Shared: A Tribute To Woody Guthrie & Leadbelly" Various Artists compilation (CBS), 1988

Waitin' On A Sunny Day (Remix)
CDR: US-only 1-track promotional single, 2003
Unique 4:13 version that runs 6 seconds shorter than the regular “Rising” album track and also features a notably different mix; with both the lead and backing vocals as well as the bass lines and sax solo being much clearer, louder and generally more upfront. In addition, the drum sound also was altered considerably, and there are about 5 extra seconds of Bruce doing his high-pitched “oh-oh-oooh” vocals not included on the album version.

We Shall Overcome (original 1998 mix)
CD: "Where Have All The Flowers Gone - The Songs Of Pete Seeger" Various Artists compilation (Appleseed), 1998
Features a count-in to the song that was omitted from the track’s subsequent second release on the 2006 “We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions” album, as well as a generally different mix.

Recorded at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California on January 12, 1993.

Without You

10-inch: "Wrecking Ball” US/European "Record Store Day" release, 2010

CD: "12 12 12: The Concert For Sandy Relief” Various Artists 2-CD set (Columbia/Sony), 2013
Recorded at Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 12, 2012.

The Wrestler (full-length version)
CDR: "The Wrestler" US-only 1-track promotional single (Fox Searchlight Pictures), 2009
Full-length 5:20 version with longer intro and intact piano coda, which inexplicably was omitted for the song’s widespread release as a “bonus track” on the “Working On A Dream” album. Although later made commercially available as an iTunes “video single” download, this unedited recording remains exclusive to the abovementioned promo CDR in audio-only form.

Youngstown (live version)
